Unfold
Unfold is a current studio experiment. A shower curtain is folded into an origami swan and then dropped from the top of the Cadman Gallery space within Staffordshire University. The material then unfolds as it falls; this process is recorded and then slowed down and the sound amplified. My aim is to capture the 'inbetween' moments from when it started with its original form and when it lands in the final fallen shape. The piece was initially inspired by the quote ‘that what has form becomes formless’ sourced from novel 'South of the Border, West of the Sun' by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. Unfold is the first of a number of experiments I wish to undertake with falling fabrics and objects capturing the constant state of flux around us.
