Launch
ComPeung
Artist Residency and Public Art Event, Chiang Mai Northern Thailand.
Launch is a choreographed 'happening' featuring the lighting of a giant Sky Lantern made with plastic bags from the local food market; the Launch performance was in collaboration with a group of international artists attending a Factory Night event at the Ice Factory in Chiang Mai. The process from take off to destruction was documented using stop motion photography. The piece was inspired by the Fire Lanterns of Northern Thailand launched as a symbol for problems and worries to float away. It was important to me that Launch encapsulated a shared experience of joy and absurdity with the materials being purposefully unsuitable as a lantern.
Funded and supported by Arts Council England and ComPeung
February- March 2010
200 low quality plastic bags, toilet roll, lighter fluid, wire coat hanger and fire.
