HiVis
HiVis was a temporary intervention as part of the Final Frontier Event in Gateshead Riverside Park.
Final Frontier involved an 8 month artist residency in the communities of Teams and Dunston for rednile plus four invited artists. The residencies started with inspiration from the LA skater film 'Dogtown and Z-boys' and focused on the concept of play to explore and examine spaces around the Riverside park. Final Frontier aimed to activate this one remaining green space on the Tyne riverside (adjacent to the Baltic centre for contemporary art) and culminated in large scale temporary public art trail which attracted hundreds of people to the underused parkland.
Rednile produced HiViS artwork a 22 metre long artwork created by wrapping workman’s high visibility vests around a gas pipe in the park. Each vest was embossed with the Final Frontier logo and given to visitors and residents after the event.
Commissioned and Supported by: Gateshead Council, Teams Community Centre and Sustrans.
