RESIDENCIES, EXHIBITIONS AND RESEARCH
October 2012- May 2013: AA2A Artist in Residence at Staffordshire University Fine Art Department. Project focused on experimental public artworks that do not oversimplify what defines a place, looking at innovative materials and incorporating functional artworks into the public realm.
2007-Ongoing: Factory Nights International Unique Commissions programme.
Described as an intelligent professional development opportunity bringing creative people together from a wide range of disciplines in unusual spaces or what we call hidden gems.
Factory Nights through the Unique Commissions bursaries supports experimentation, research and collaboration in the public realm. Supported by: Arts Council England, The British Council, Northern Rock Foundation, North Tyneside Council, Sunniside Partnership, Durham County Council, Durham City Arts, Inspire Northumberland, Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire University, Multistory, Sunderland City Council, Gateshead Council.
January 2013 – ongoing: Large scale temporary public art commission for Cragside National Trust in Northumberland. Hydraulic Colony will be installed in the Pinetum and will be made of thousands of toy cranes.
February 2013- ongoing: Byker Metro Station interactive public art work; Byker Barcodes. Revealing hidden and overlooked elements of Byker through QR codes and high tec treasure hunting. Commissioned by Nexus and Newcastle Upon Tyne Council.
October 2012: 4 Lands installation. Part of AirSpace group exhibition 'Show12'
June 2012: Stock Pile. Temporary public art commission situated at Cromford Mill as part of Derbyshire Open Spaces.
May 2012- Ongoing: Localise international research project with Poland and Lithuania. Research skill sharing project visiting Cultural Animation projects in the three countries supported by Warsaw University, Kaunas University and Staffordshire University.
October-November 2011: Residency at Chatterjee & Lal Gallery, Mumbai, India. Knowledge share residency and series of events looking at how organisations in Mumbai sustain themselves without public funding. With support from The British Council and in partnership with AirSpace Gallery, UK.
September 2011: Reclaimed City. a collaborative residency and exhibition with ceramic artist Amy Jayne Hughes at AirSpace Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent as part of the British Ceramics Biennial.
September 2011- ongoing: Insider Art project in Kibblesworth Gateshead. Project uncovering hidden skills within the Community, developing a series of temporary public artworks and 30 integrated bronze and acrylic sculptures within housing estate.
August 2011: Flow Vinyl. Part of Kiss Me Quick Exhibition, Harbour Arm Gallery, Margate.
Jan- June 2011: Geo Art Cache project. Three temporary large-scale commissions in the North Yorkshire Moors linking art and high tech treasure hunting. Found Object, The Catch and Rain maker along the Gypsey race river. Commissioned by Chrysalis Arts and Ryedale Council.
May 2011: Flow animation. Part of 2WET exhibition at STEW Gallery, Norwich.
July 09- Nov 2011: Steeling Skies Sheffield public realm project. Working with Planit Landscape architects, rednile artists developed a series of temporary and permanent artworks for the 5000 property Shiregreen Housing Estate. The Lamppost Sky Map Trail included reusing 78 of the original 1930’s lampposts as modern day plinths to on which to mount fantastical artworks. Commissioned by: Sanctuary Housing and Sheffield City Council
March- April 2010: ComPeung artist residency and public art event, Northern Thailand. Studio based residency focusing on developing public art works and projects along with delivering a Factory Night event. Supported by Arts Council England.
June -July 2009: 4 week studio based residency. Cyprus College of Art, Paphos
Jan-June 2009: Pioneering Species Installation. Rednile artists were commissioned to produce a long term artwork; Pioneering Species for the Victorian Tynemouth Station while the station underwent a multi-million pound regeneration bid. Hoardings along the full station platform (14units @ 2.4metre x 2.4metre) were transformed with banners depicting digitally manipulated images of plants and foliage which were taken with a traditional pin hole camera. North Tyneside Council were successful in their regeneration bid and awarded Seachange funding in 2010. Commissioned and by:North Tyneside council, Sponsors club, Station developments Ltd, Nexus and in partnership with Moorbank Botanical garden.
Nov 2008- May 2009: HiVis at Final Frontier event and residency. Involved an 8 month artist residency in the nearby communities of Teams and Dunston for rednile plus four invited artists. The residencies focused on the concept of play to explore space culminated in temporary public art commissions as part of a celebration art trail in Gateshead Riverside Park which attracted hundreds of people to the underused parkland. Rednile produced HiViS artwork (22 metre long artwork created by wrapping workman’s high visibility vests around a gas pipe in the park- each vest was embossed with the Final Frontier logo and given to community groups and residents after the event) Commissioned and Supported by: Gateshead Council, Teams Community Centre, Teams Children’s Centre, Sustrans, Living Streets, Dunston Drop-In centre.
March-Sept 2007: Artcast at New City Programme. Collaborative exchange with Kangaroo Court in Bristol supported by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. 6 Month programme or residencies in non art spaces in the two cities along with a programme of exhibitions, performances and events.
June 2007; Fallen installation. Part of Addressee Gone Away residency and exhibition at Miles Meehan Gallery, Darlington
May-August 2006: Residency at Art Gene Independent research Facility. Landing Strip residency and exhibition looking at activating spaces around Barrow-in-Furness with temporary artworks, events and interventions. Supported by Arts Council England
2006: Temporary Address Public art works and event Blyth, Northumberland. Yearlong project developing 4 large scale temporary public artworks to activate the town centre along with mentorship for local students. Supported by: Northumberland Council and Arts Council England.
2006: Colourfest. Installation in Saltwell Park, Commissioned by Gateshead council

Over the past 8 years rednile has initiated 20 major projects throughout the UK all in the public realm. rednile has contracted over 500 creative individuals in the form of residencies, exhibitions, new commissions and temporary public art commissions and provided work placements, studio space, mentorships and opportunities to writers, photographers, designers and students. The projects focus on experimentation, collaboration and research in the public realm with an aim of improving the quality of public artworks and providing unique opportunities for artists. www.rednile.org

Inspire Northumberland, June 2006 – June 2008, Assistant Art and Design Curator Delivering a number of high profile public art and design projects across the whole of Northumberland. This includes Sean Henrys 'Couple' sculpture at Newbiggin by the Sea. The first offshore sculpture in the UK and part an essential sea defence and the only DEFRA funded scheme in 2007.
